As the holiday season comes to a close and we’re all festied out
Nothing like a good old mug of soup and cheese toastie to satisfy the soul. How one misses the simplest of pleasures in life! With the nights drawing in there seems little time to keep up with one’s daily diary of events and tick off reminders on the ’To Do’ list.
august 2010
the holidays are in full swing and we’re loving the ggreat outdoors!
Thank you to all you festival goers for making Guilfest 2010 a memorable experience! Not only in the 100 degree heat wave we were submerged to on Sunday July 18th but from the live photos taken at the festival that portray ‘many merry folk possibly gorging too many magic mushrooms, washed down by some good ‘ole pear cider?’ Those who missed my decadent ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ live on The Palace Stage, Sunday afternoon will be able to see the live footage of this avant guard experience whilst enjoying a good herbal brew in the next few days . By the end of Guilfest weekend we were all ‘rocking all over the world’ to the legendary Quo and after 30 Years, good to see Level 42’s Mark King giving us a few ‘lessons in love’….ing a phallic instrument.

guilfest 2010
Immersed by the sun’s rays, we’re in the peak of the hottest summertime this year. I’ll be @ Guilfest 2010 July 18th live on ‘The Palace Stage’ @ 3pm with material from the new album ‘The Fables Project’ released this September so do come and join us Sunday afternoon at our ‘Mad Hatter’s Tea Party’ and bring along your favorite tea bag, leafs or plant infusion for a good brew up for the whole weekend’s music menagerie, after which you may find a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign outside Kitayah camping quarters, ‘Bedouin Base’, for I may need to recover from too much indulgence.

‘Fest’ mania is in the air!
So let’s all rummage around in the garage getting that camping gear in spic and span order (Don’t forget the wet wipes and bin liners!) The start of the Radio Road Show Tour kicks off ‘round the UK end of the month. You can catch the dates listed on the website Monday June 14th. With the ‘The Fables Tour’ Summer 2010 @ the Amersham Arms, SE14 Friday June 25th. (Absent Kelly Promoters); situated next door to Goldsmiths College. From the same people who brought you The Lock Tavern in Camden and Adventures In The Beetroot Fields, this South London music venue holds the Take Courage Gallery, so why not be culturally inspired and admire the art?... Then, get yourselves warmed up and raring to go for this summer’s Eton Mess of music festivals, ‘cos you know you want to!

‘ASHES TO ASHES’....
With ‘The Fables Tour’ 2010 approaching and the album now complete, we’ll keep you in anticipation for just a little bit longer to hear the latest morsels we’ve created. The new Kitayah sound is much harder edged, electronically inspired and a real listening experience to the ears! Recording in Yorkshire gave an amazing vibe in such an awesome studio….a mind blowing location!!
My larynx was trusted into overload!... Only one hitch though, that Volcano that kicked off in Iceland kept our producer miles away in Canada. Thank you Mother Nature! We finally got him back in Blighty by the end of the week. Yeh!

the clocks have gone forward.....
…..and with no time to loose, it’s a race to see who’s going to collect the most chocolate surprises in our great Easter Egg hunt! For all those chocoholics amongst us ’decisions…decisions…hmm now which egg shall I choose to gorge on first? Will it be the Galaxy Caramel? ‘Smooth and silky’ or the Snickers Easter Egg?... Packed with nuts ...or what about the Maltesers one, so light you’ll need new ways to be naughty ! ….hmm?
With the Easter Holidays upon us, I’ve given my boys a well-deserved break. So for the next 3 weeks ‘Happy Hols my rooks, this raven will be missing you ’x’. There is much to do at Kitayah Camp so best I get down to business!

somewhere in yorkshire We’ll be trekking the miles, over the hills and dales to Yorkshire for what’s undoubtedly going to be an ore inspiring experience completing recordings of the new material at the converted Victorian coach house (now studio‘Somewhereinyorkshire’) owned by John Parr (‘St Elmos Fire’) It was two years ago when I had the pleasure of working with John on his ‘Comeback Tour’ and reminiscing through his entire back catalogue of 80’s film soundtracks he wrote and recorded. Classic! I hope to tempt this rock legend in getting creative with me. ‘Get out that banjo John and let’s have an unplugged impromptu session! I wonder who’ll be the most laree of us rock divas in the sing off stakes?’.....

kitayah plays water rats with australia’s bertie blackman!
On a rainy, dull and dreary night in the hustle and bustle of North London’s Kings Cross there was an AIR of anticipated excitement in the metropolis. Even the vibe at the Big Chill Bar with it’s sumptuous sofa’s seemed too cosy a crib to be at than it’s neighbouring venue Water Rats. The Australian population (or so it seemed!) invaded the Monto ‘s music theatre. A flock from Brisbane Australia gathered in beverage and social banter came to support Bertie. Strange that?.... As this alluring creature of alternative/electro pop/rock hails from Sydney. Her performance could have filled every seat of the Sydney Opera House! Bertie Blackman is a truly impressive performer, refreshingly unique. Bertie is leading the way forward for all female artists. Her Australian sell out album ‘Secrets and Lies’ is an embodiment of emotionally raw, thought provoking songs in complex electro production/arrangement. Currently on tour with La Roux, Bertie’s instant appeal is apparent and being respected for her talent as Award winning ‘Best Breakthrough Act ‘ (Australian Independent Records - AIR Awards) expect to hear much more from this lady.
The evening was a first time experience for me. Performing to a 75% Australian audience, much louder, totally ‘up for it’ and loving their live music! The cheers and applause after performing ‘Self Victimized’ was quite an enthralling experience (they still love the old classics off ‘ raven alibies’…. Just you wait for the new album ‘The Fables Project’ coming soon).
To add to the evening’s music menagerie, there were a perfect formation of Bertie Blackman Australian supporters dancing their t*ts off….and when quoted ‘You British are very tame? ‘….have you seen us tackle at rugby Bertie?
january 2010
‘’Twas in the bleak mid winter, with a glisten of snow in sight.
The wind that came in the blistering chill beckons the dark of night’. As we celebrate the New Year, 2010 promises to be an over indulgence of live music. Bringing us back into the flow of things on January 6th the acoustic unplugged session @ Hoxton Pony (Shoreditch) will bring some light entertainment in this design structured building that will impress all you keen architects. Then get ready for the big one! January 29th Brixton Jamm – Kitayah supporting Orbital (DJ set). Celebrating 2 decades of groundbreaking electronica and having headlined @ Big Chill 2009 and this year headlining the Isle of White festival, the British techno boys ‘for one rare and special night’ will be invading SW9. Those of you who know me well will appreciate my passion for electronics.
Happy New Year!
